Here’s why you’ll FAIL at P90X

This is anything but motivational. Rather, this is going to slam you down and show you the reality and show you the bigger picture of things.

Why will you NOT succeed at P90X? You’ll purchase the workouts, get excited and all, purchase all the equipment that is needed, but you will fail, you’ll fail big time and here’s why. Because you won’t do it.

Why won’t I do it, Vivek?

Here’s a list of reasons I’ve heard:

  • Because I’m overwhelmed, overwhelmed with the whole aspect of making a commitment for 90 days. I don’t think I’m ready.
  • I’m married now (and/or kids) and I don’t have time.
  • I have a busy schedule (while flicking channels on TV).
  • My friends will make fun of me (or not support me).

Any many more….

One thing I’ve learned is that we human beings are very creative. We have the most amazing, creative ideas and excuses for not doing something. Creative excuses, mind blowing excuses for not doing something. Mathematically, this creativity is in the negative quadrant will be the reason you will FAIL at P90X.

Let’s introspect a few reasons above and try and give you creative ideas on how to make it happen v/s I can’t

  • Because I’m overwhelmed, overwhelmed with the whole aspect of making a commitment for 90 days. I don’t think I’m ready

What you really want: Look at the program as a 1 day program, repeated for 90 days. Not making sense? Yeah, it won’t in the beginning, but you have get your head out of the 90 day goal. Focus on today and today only. Don’t make any commitments if that scares you (but you said you have a wife and kids so you’re not really afraid of commitment, I assume?). If you’re setting no goals or overwhelmingly huge goals, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

#2 and #3 are about similar

  • I’m married now (and/or kids) and I don’t have time.
  • I have a busy schedule (while flicking channels on TV)

What you really mean: Ah! I see, you don’t have priority, time is another excuse, you do have time for TV, don’t you? You’re up to date with all the latest movies (me too, hi 5 for that ;)) and the latest news. You can lie to me, you can lie to everyone, but you can’t lie to yourself. So, stop doing that. 24-hour days is the only thing we all have in all fairness. This is the one thing that everyone on Planet Earth has in common. If you’re on Jupiter, don’t worry about reading this blog. Worry about gravity, its a lot more there isn’t it?

Next time, when you mention these two excuses, you’re indirectly telling your spouse / children, that you did not pursue something because of them. Is this the feeling you want them to cultivate? Or do you want to tell them that you did something for yourself and lead by example. Next time when you come to me and mention this excuse, think again. I will say this, and you may get hurt. But by saying and using such excuses, you’re hurting your family. Ever thought about that?

  • My friends will make fun of me (or not support me)

Your friends are merely average. Listen to average people and you will be average for the rest of your lives. You can choose to ignore their comments or keep moving forward. This is going to be a personal decision, whether you choose to do things out of the ordinary or fit-in with the herd mentality. The middle finger is a wonderful thing, it stands up for you when no one else does. Utilize it. Remember, good friends behave like friends, they support you with your decision(s) when you make a choice for improvement.

The key thing is to start and not worry about 90 day, though the bigger picture is to know that if you miss a day or two, big deal! Do you quit your job if you miss a day or two at work? If it’s a lifestyle, if it’s important to you, it becomes a way of life. I remember brushing teeth twice a day habit took some time to settle in. Same philosophy here with a different effort level. Stop blaming a system and waiting for a system to work for you. You have be part of the system and utilize it.

Keep pushing play.
